                West Oxford U3A Safeguarding Policy

 

It is agreed that within the area of its influence as West Oxford U3A the committee will promote and be aware of the following:

1.
A need to protect people’s health, well-being and human rights enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect;

2.
Acknowledge the six safeguarding principles namely;  Empowering, Preventing harm. Responding appropriately, Looking after the members so they feel protected, Working with relevant bodies and Reporting and Recording any instances of breach;

3.
That Charity Trustees are responsible for ensuring that those benefitting from or working with their charity are not harmed in any way through their contact with it;

4.
The need to Promote Wellbeing enabling members to find new friends, feel supported, learn new skills, feel healthier, build their confidence, become engaged with the community, manage life changes such as retirement, illness or bereavement;

5. The need for 
Confidentiality;

6.
The U3A is not a social care organisation but does have a duty of care.
The committee will designate one of the Chairman, the Secretary and the Treasurer at a meeting to be responsible for contacting emergency services if required during a meeting.
